me: hey its my dream job to go into animation! i'm really passionate about this, and very vocal about that, and excited to get into school for it.
my mom: (tags me in an article on facebook titled "why you shouldnt want a job in animation")
me: cool thanks!

that's awful.. even if I never found a job in animation (or even anything related to it like graphic design illustrator, concept artist, freelancer whatever, etc.) after studying it, at least my parents supported me. They still do now even after four years since I graduated. To do this day, I'll never regret that I took up animation.

If you're really passionate about animation tho and it's something you can set your heart unto, take it! Try to convince your mom this one thing you're confident and excited about. Your mom is probably just worried about your future (if it's about you not being able to find a job relating to it, or if your mind+body is ready for the strains it comes with the job, then her heart is in the right place. if it's about the fact that it doesn't earn as much as other jobs then she can back off), but she's just a bit too harsh and blunt about it.

I want to see this article for laughs haha

*skims article*

Oh hey, its not so bad.

Guy is a senior animator and his opening paragraph says: "I don’t have a job - I have a career."

The title of the blog is misleading, but I guess in a way for people to snap heads haha~

Its just about a guy and his journey as an animator and how he has jumped from studio to studio.

Moral of the story is to never take a gig/project for granted, and to know that even if you get laid off from your dream studio, that doesn't mean the end of your career as an animtor - the days get brighter and there's always new opportunities.

If your mom read the article... I think she's actually supporting you on this!!

Basically my parents with my art. I didn't go to art school because of how unsupportive they were about it. I went for something 'practical' with a focus on financial and I still can't get a job despite my high grades. So really, take my advice: if you're really passionate about something don't let anyone hold you back. Even if you fail you have no regrets because you tried at the very least.

Yeah I regret not going to school for art because I at least would have felt accomplished for trying and graduating.
That's kinda weird though. I mean if your parents are totally supportive and then blindside you as such well...jeeze X_X Not cool bruh.
I mean in her eyes she could have been showing you the 'unseen reality' of animating. It's not an easy job by any standards.

Yeah I'd just brush it off. If she throws any more stuff
like that at you I'd confront her and ask her why she's doing it.
>_< Here's hoping it's a one-off moment.
